Hello all. recently my wife's 2015 5 speed fiesta was having trouble shifting. it would drive ok without any problem until I would try to downshift to 1st which it wouldn't let me do. I would have to turn the car off and restart it to let me shift into 1st. also sometimes when I put it in reverse, it would slip. decided to check the brake fluid reservoir and it was empty. filled it up and attempted to bleed, but was never 100% sure that I had done it correctly. took it to a shop and the guy put in a new clutch. it was driving ok until I was making a k turn and had to put the car in reverse. the clutch slipped. took it back to the shop and the guy said that he took it out for a test drive and he didn't have any issue. when I question him about what he said about water going into the throwout bearing, he said that it was because of the rain we had yesterday and that because the car sits low, that water might have gotten into the bell housing. somehow this doesn't sound right to me. has anyone had a similar issue and what was the fix? Thanks

Handy Andy

There are several threads about the Hydraulic Clutch and - since it uses the same fluid as the Brake system, they are "pooled" together.

They use the same fluid, but there is plumbing that takes from the main reservoir on the Brake Master cylinder and have their own separate Master/Slave systems - but the tank they share is held by the Brake side.

So when you lose fluid like that, you have a problem - not just with the Clutch, but with the Braking system can fail too.

Some threads that might help...

One of the many things you have to be careful about.

Watch out for debris and your Clutch pedal travel.

You should have two switches - one to the REAR of the clutch pedal, and one where the Clutch pedal rests a boot on (upper)

These switches can get broken - or dislodged and cause problems with Pedal Travel. And even goofy results in trying to drive.

Inspect your Clutch pedal and under the dashboard. Make sure your clutch pedal is not hindered in full travel - or it can damage the clutch by not working correctly.
