Hello all, yesterday driving home during rain, windows were fogging up. turned on the defrost and noticed I was getting air through the passenger vents and nothing through the dash vents beneath the windshield. a couple of years ago had changed the driver's side actuator because I was hearing a clicking noise. This time, no clicking. Can't believe that it would fail this quickly. Is there the possibility that I could have installed it wrong? Thanks

Did you read this thread?

https://www.fordfiesta.org/threads/air-vents-only-blowing-at-windshield.8654/post-22837

The basic premise?

Start car, turn on blower fan to max, so your heater will push air and easily feel it thru vents...

Move the control to a blower setting to tell it to move the drum to that vent setting - the Drum actuator will try to move the drum to a setting - if it's not aligned, the air won't come out of the vent you selected - it will come out somewhere else.

So leave the setting where it's at - engine running - remove the actuator that moves the drum, then using your fingers move the large main gear that the drum uses in it's gearbox, to make the drum turn it's ports so you feel air coming out of the vents you selected, no other ones.

Note the Actuator gear, it should not be turning - so it thinks it's set on the right number of turns and if you have the drum gearbox set the same way, you can reinstall the actuator - while the system runs, tighten down the screws - then move the selector to verify the vents also change - and you are done with the alignment.

Turn it back to O and turn off the motor - you and your climate control should now be OK.

Followed your instructions and I only get air coming out the defrost now. when I change the settings to passenger vents nothing happens. took the blend door out and watched the gear on it. when I hit defrost or passenger vents, it doesn't move. when I hit the button to direct air flow to my legs, it moves. is this normal, or do I need a new actuator? Thanks

IF the Drum turns freely, and you can move that gear on the drum the actuator controls BY HAND to make it blow air out of those passenger vents - then the actuator and it's harness that connects to it - should be investigated.

What kind of "Climate Control System" do you have?

Because to help understand the condition; is to know if you have Manual or Automatic Climate control.

If you have an automatic temperature control system, like what you can find in the Titanium trim line, those systems use those actuator gears to move a rheostat (potentiometer) to help the system determine where the gears "Home" position is on the drum and where to go to set it to the floor, passenger, defrost or all of the above - it requires a lot of wires, at least two for the motor to run, and three to offer "position sense" response to help it "locate itself" and are a little more complex.

Here's another thread...
https://www.fordfiesta.org/threads/heater-flap-position-motor-problem.8261/post-20505

The reason why (IMO) you don't seem to have Passenger - may be due to the actuator is broken - it has lost the ability to find position when you change from Floor - Passenger or Defrost. OR it has lost the ability to "know" where all the settings are it needs to be - the FoMoCo string will have to be located on the actuator and look at the Harness, if it only uses two wires - then the Climate controller in the dash is possibly damaged and will need replacement - but to determine that you'll need to know how many wires are going to the actuator.

Why The FoMoCo? That number has the revision code and proper housing to fit and properly work the Climate system for your vehicle - other knockoffs and Ford itself - has moved on to other actuators and it;s been found they are not all backwards compatible and you may have to seek one out of a similar year make and model to make this work right..

I've got the climate control picture on the left. Ended up buying a motocraft actuator and will give that a shot. I have small hands and it was a PIA. Got nicks on my hand. Don't know how guys with bigger hands do it. Thanks
