The issue of compatibility with the workings you have for that model year - that may be why they didn't or couldn't install one.
There are several "variants" of the module, due to the holder it uses for the mounting location - and to be able to "See" objects and work the SYNC/PCM/BCM units using the CAN-bus (host communication system) so it can warn and look for obstacles, objects and even help you use "Adaptive" cruise control if your vehicle was equipped with it.
Since that module is missing, there's little I can offer to help you locate one that should work just fine, as a drop in replacement and off you go.
- The Problem lies in..
- if the unit can't talk to the system due to the level of communication protocols it tells the system or it's more advanced than the system was programmed for, it will not work in the car.
- Same applies to the level of sensor technology included, it has a front-facing sensor for it, but also can utilize the ones for the rear or sides like anti-collision alerts and light indicators for lane drift - but it has to be able to recognize and use the proper wiring and voltage readings and signals it needs from those sensors to work right.
- CAN-Bus protocols also "upgrade" thru the years - so you'll have to locate one that used for that year - latter revisions - those last two letters or digits in the FoMoCo ID string are tell-tale signs of the revision and the ability to be compatible with what you currently use.
- Earlier ones? (Last two digits closer to A than Z ) Might work better than latter revision ones for they have to also work with the installed technology and it's signals it produces for it to know what to do - but that also reciprocates back to the ability to work in the technology level of you system - does not always mean the latest and greatest are backwards compatible with the earlier units unless you upgrade them all at the same time.
To help with this, In the USA we can "run our VIN" on the Ford website to give us the details on options and what trim level it has - for the benefit of those looking at accident reports, sales or otherwise - you may be able to do the same to run your VIN and see what it used for these options we are discussing here - The VIN is what was on the car at the times it was made - it's the window sticker - so it may be needed to be run find out what you really have and what can be done to make it work right again.
