My 2013 was stolen and then I was lucky enough for it to be recovered, but I now have no keys for it.

The dealership said that they cannot help me because the vehicle is more than 10 years old and they do not have the data to cut keys for that age, etc. They suggested I consider finding an entire ignition with matching keys to install. Is that really the only solution?

Please help!

IF you wish to keep the car, then you should have a new set of keys cut for it no matter what and remove or reprogram the RF-sense for the LOCK and UNLOCK function - so you have a layer of protection from those thieves that may have been trying various sets of key-fobs to find a matching code that got your car in this condition in the first place.

It may be the safer condition to be in, the original stolen keys were most-llikely copied or at least kept by someone so that when you got it back, you HAVE TO change the keys because you cannot trust the keys were not copied - even if you got them returned in original condition.

Ok. So you’ve said a couple of things that indicate a direction, but with some missing pieces. If I were to replace the lock cylinder that would not solve the issues with the sensors. Would I be able to replace EVERYTHING? I don’t even want to keep this car at this point. The police have identified the thieves and they are juveniles and they ditched the car when it ran out of fuel. I live in an extremely low crime area and can just leave the car in a garage if I wanted, but it has nearly 250,000 miles on it and I would like something new. Im looking for the cheapest and easiest solution to get it drivable so I can get rid of it.

also, if someone wishes to address it, can someone please explain to me why the “data” for cars over 10 years old just vanished from the Ford database and they can’t cut keys? I have emails older than 10 years, this is bologna to tell me they just don’t have the info anymore. That’s not how computers work.

The dealership is brushing you off, which is sad has already happened to me, so my advice - Might need to find a new shop.
  • Having been victimized myself - the effort of re-cutting the key for the tumbler can be left to a dealer or repair shop - you'll have to discuss options with them.
  • The issue of RF Actuator (the receiver in the car which takes the commands from the key-fob) it usually is safer to have the shop disable or remove the actuator and leave it with you, while you use the manual options of the key in the door and to start it, until you can be assured from those involved that the keys are "gone" - then it may be possible to have the actuator reprogrammed - but in light of your thoughts on this subject - any vehicle over 250,000 miles is quite a feat and to be honest - a liability even for those whom steal cars, for if it broke down you may get stuck with the bill to clean this up - fortunately it sounds like it didn't happen.
It's not that Ford can't find them, they have moved on since then and now they can't provide the parts or support for them anymore - they simply stopped making the parts.

For Ford itself though, they don't support the Fiesta as much as they once did - even on my latter model of yours. So I'm already looking for aftermarket support that Ford has left sitting on the table.

You realize that being juveniles, they will have tried to "lose" those keys intentionally but might remember to know where they were lost at, as they can try to go back and retrieve them at a later time once they are freed of the scrutiny. So they will be more than likely going back - tracing their steps - to where they pitched them. If the police had them, they would have already given them back to you, else you may need to file a report follow-up on the location of the missing keys, as if they are being used as evidence for the prosecution - then getting them back may take a while.

Thank you for your reply. I've tried more than one dealership and none of them can help. I'm really at an impasse. I can find nobody that will cut a key, no shops will disable the RF actuator, and even the locksmiths are telling me I'm out of luck. I really don't know what the deal is.

I guess I need to figure out what to replace to start the car, but I'll have to bail on being able to lock it. At least then I can drive it.
