- Ford Fiesta 2002
Hey everyone! I'll be traveling from Mexico to the US soon to look for parts at junkyards, since they're cheaper for a project I have in mind.
I'm restoring a 2002 Ford Fiesta Hatchback, a family car with a lot of sentimental value, and I want to do several upgrades. I'm looking for your critiques, opinions, and recommendations on the following:
I'm restoring a 2002 Ford Fiesta Hatchback, a family car with a lot of sentimental value, and I want to do several upgrades. I'm looking for your critiques, opinions, and recommendations on the following:
- Rear Disc Brake Conversion: I want to get rid of the drums. I heard that MK1 Focus discs might work, but I don't know if it's a direct swap or what the adaptation involves, especially regarding the parking brake. Has anyone done this? If you have any advice on what's needed for the brake conversion, honestly, I wouldn't mind picking up parts from AutoZone or similar stores either
- Engine (Aiming for 100+ HP): The original engine has really high mileage and I'm undecided. I don't know whether to give it a complete refresh (resurface block/head, new pumps, etc.) or do a swap for a rebuilt engine. I'm not a brand purist; I'm actually interested in dropping in a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan engine. My goal is for it to have at least 100 horsepower so it doesn't feel so slow by today's standards. What route or engine do you recommend?
- Electric Power Steering (EPS) Conversion: I've had terrible experiences with the hydraulic steering racks in Fiestas (I had a 2004 and it was a disaster), so I want to switch over to electric power steering. I've read that the EPS from a 2015 Nissan March or Versa is an almost direct fit.
