Advice sought - High oil consumption and Turbo issue.

My partners Ford Fiesta 2017 1.0 threw up a "service engine soon" light, she booked it into the garage and when they checked it over they observed the following.

"On start up of the vehicle considerable engine noise was heard and a lack of performance felt . Codes checked -Confirmed Eml. Engine running rough, metallic rattling sound. Lack of power. Checked DTCs. P0340-00 camshaft position sensor A circuit. P0365-00 camshaft position sensor B circuit. No oil registering on the dipstick. Excessive oil in the tailpipe. Only .5ltr of engine oil . Suspect turbo or engine burning oil past the rings . Turbo wastegate found to be worn . Sump removed to check oil pick up ."

We bought it about 10 months ago at 68k miles, it's only done about 10k since we got it. Dealer claims to have done full service and Wet Belt change before purchase, it seems very suspicions that so much oil would be burnt in such a period. It wasn't cheap and feel like we've been sold a lemon. Considering what we can do next, in the UK consumer rights require us to prove the fault was present at time of purchase, for the above to occur what do people think is the likely cause? Is this a long standing issue or could it have been as a result of a spontaneous failure in the last 10 months?

The 1.0 has many issues. Google “ford 1.0 Ecoboost engine problems”. There is nothing I can add to provide you with much comfort or advice.

There was a recall on those engines in the US for the Ecosport and Focus, but not for the Fiesta. I would try to find out if there's a recall for yours in the UK.
