Edited: Everyday stuff....air gauge, rubber gloves, flashlight, tow strap, LED red flashing light, spare tire/jack/tire iron, extra lug nuts, fuses, towel, Leatherman Crunch. Traveling/vacation...add jumper cables, a small wrench kit, small assortment of screwdrivers, duct tape, 3/4-inch wrench for my hitch basket.

First aid kit, Rain poncho, just in case. Socket for the black lug nuts. I've got flashlights up front. Thinking about a fire extinguisher.
Road: Enough tools to do easy roadside repairs.

One of my favorite subjects! What to haul around every day?
For me that includes a small 12 volt air compressor (shout out to SUPERFLOW!, powerful and quiet), multi bit screwdriver, valve core tool, tire plugs and rubber cement kit, large and small vice grip pliers, plastic and steel zip ties, a pair of gloves and two shop towels, a small multi ranging voltmeter and electrical tape. A quarter inch drive ratchet socket set and the aforementioned Leatherman multi tool! I am not walking or being towed away without a fight!

Along with @scotman, @econoboxrocks and @LionsTooth - you might want spare Fuses, 10mm and 13mm Wrench, 19mm Deep Socket /Breaker bar for Lug nuts.

Torx drivers are a must, T27 being a go-to size for Headlight, T25 from some trim and rear tailights.

6-in-1 Screwdriver Multi tool - being that it has Phillips #2 and #3 along with Slotted and the bit holders can help with mm or SAE bolts of similar size in a pinch.

This may sound like a throwback , but a pair of these can help...

Hemostats.

They can help in Fuse replacement and when working around connectors to pull them apart as well as hold something steady while you splice (them) together.

I have half a dozen hemostats on my soldering bench. I employ them along with a panavice and illuminated magnifying glass to do the close electronic work. I dont think i could do any of that work without them.

And they say we have a lot of Junk In The Trunk...This stuff adds up to maybe 25 pounds - about the weight of a bag of kitty litter - which we ALSO forgot to mention...

Yet, we make it to meetings, events, and even pick up the Groceries the wife sent us out to do, all within a reasonable amount of time.

I did mention - "REASONABLE amount of time"

We're not stuck on the side on the shoulder of the road calling the wife...explaining why we can't....

There are some great suggestions here. One thing I've tended to add is a breaker bar with appropriate socket for lugs, because the small wrench in the spare tire kit often doesn't get the trick done. In my wife's vehicle, I've upgraded her to a cordless impact. Let the wrench do the work. :D

I've replaced my jumper cables with a lithium ion jumper pack. I've used mine with other vehicles a couple times with good success. A safety advantage is for a roadway breakdown, aligning the vehicles to accommodate cables, possibly putting vehicles into the roadway or maneuvering around the shoulder, is eliminated. There are a number on the market, I have the NOCO GB40.

Basic wrenches, sockets, pliers, cutters, screwdrivers/Torx drivers. Scott brings up a good point on tire plugs and a compressor.

I'll recommend that those carrying a first aid kit be up to speed on basic first aid. The tool is only as good as the knowledge of the person using it.

Maglite, fire extinguisher and Leatherman raptor ride up front. Maglite is mounted in the door cubby hole with the mount kit, glass smasher end cap and a red lens for the interior of the car 20210821_185554.jpg 20210821_185613.jpg

Thinking about adding a tourniquet to the visor 20210825_161839.jpg my original plan was to attach a small tear away trauma kit, but I think it would be too heavy and pull the visor open

we simply do not want you as a student if you do not have the ability to slow your ass down and respect the fact that this is a working
farm with people moving about. If you cannot do that, you will be escorted off the property without a refund!" [burnout]

Sun visors are not anywhere near as sturdy as they were in the 80's. The visors in the 80's were limp and weak compared to those in the late 1960's!
I wouldn't fasten anything to a visor that is heavier than a registration and proof of insurance .given how nervous cops are about people not showing their hands at all times in a traffic stop, i feel that the visors single most important task is not blocking the suns glare, it's providing a safer place to keep vehicle documents.

I like having the extra usable space. Last time I totaled a car the only thing I could grab from where I was stuck was a Maglite. Obviously a visor can only hold so much weight before it becomes a hazard, but I think it's usefulness as a platform for small emergency items is too often overlooked
