I need some advice.
I went away for a month and was expecting the usual flat rear tyre as have slow puncture but was very surprised to see the whole front of my car has lowered, the wheel arch had lowered so the wheel is actually one/two inch inside it. Its not just one side it is both front wheels.
I presume its coils or shocks but not sure which, but what is strange its both sides not just one, that is the mystery?
Car is Fiesta 2007 1.25 Studio model.

Looks like the spring either broke or came out of the lower perch/bucket. Did someone drive it while you were away...perhaps jumping it?

Another question would be how old are the struts and springs? That strut and spring both look like they’ve seen better days.

The struts flanges are rusted and so are the springs - are rotted away.

Environment did this - not vandals or otherwise

The 1st Drivers side photos show the "flange" the spring mounts to, is not there - looks like rust is where the springs should be the coating is there but the spring isn't and now broke loose. (Scrunched up into the top of the housing)

The 2nd set being the passenger side, one spring has lost all it's basement coating and "sprung" out - you can compare the "flange" of the passenger side to the one on the Drivers side - you'll see the Drivers side is nearly non-existent.

That's a 2007 - if those are OEM they lasted until you last left it - then broke probably during winter (weight of snow? You're in UK Manchester - so that or salt spray) - then the springs may or may not be OEM - but no matter what, the age is showing.

For the rest of us, this is what salt - water or corrosive flooding can do - eat away at the metals even when they're coated - and rots away...

The suspension had to have been very bad prior to it's literal collapse. A worn out suspension makes itself known to any driver that is paying even the slightest bit of attention.

no it did not let me know and only passed the MOT a month before. if there was any faults it would have failed the test.

At any rate, the springs both popped out. Might need to replace all of it.

In this case, I would think the tech at MOT didn’t look too hard by choice or per request.
