What I Drive
2018 Fiesta (model ????)
#1
My name is Rick.

I live in Morro Bay, CA, and recently traded my F-150 to my Son for his 2018 Fiesta (the title does not specfy a model) with the 1.6l engine and a six speed automatic.

My Son is starting a new handy man/haul away business and needed a pickup, my wife and I wanted a 4-dr sedan, so the trade came about for both our benefit. I have added cruise control and ordered new seat covers but all else is original.

I have had two instances where the check engine light came on. I did the WD-40 treatement at the fuel inlet, cleared the code and all was well for a while, but the check engine light came on again. Some research indicates I could have a dirty mass air sensor, or coated 02 sensosrs, so I'm working on checking those out.

I went to order a shop manual, like a Chilton, but found out that all I can ger is digital on a thumb drive or a disc. I can't preview them to insusre the needed information is included to guide me to checking the mass air sensor and/or the 02 sensors I was able to read the index on one manual but there was no listing for the two items I want to check so I want to insure the information is there before making the purchase..

I know this is a long introduction but I am looking for guidance on which shop manual to order. There are two on ebay that look the same in the image but differ in price by a factor of about 2, so there is likely something missing in the lesser expensive one, possibly both.

Any advice would be welcome, I can be reached at crzn427@yahoo.com

Regards, Rick.

BTW, I also have a '67 Cougar with a 390, 4bbl, 4spd and no power equipment that my Dad bought new. I'm finishing up some paint repairs now. I also have a Factory Five 427 Roadster that I bought in 2000 and built my self, with a '94 Mustang 5.0 HO engine and T-5 transmission, I also did the upholstry and paint. My wife has a Porsche Boxster.

Welcome to the Fiesta forum! Given your level of experience, you should go with the most complete shop manual which will include the EVTM and probably some electrical schematics. The thing about the Fiesta that is different from the old school Fords is that the crank pulley is not keyed. So you must have and follow the calibration procedure when you do the timing belt and water pump services. You also must have the special tools kit that allows you to lock the camshaft’s in the proper position for servicing the engine.
the steering is electric power assist or EPAS , so if it stops working you will need to start by inspecting the ground and power connections. Pumps and hoses are history.
The Fiesta ABS and stability control system is pretty straightforward in its design. Brake pads and drums/ discs are simple and reliable.
The cooling system is the weakest part of the car. The plastic coolant reservoir is not trustworthy past 3 years of age and the plastic coolant lines attached to the reservoir only a little bit longer lived. A Fiesta that has lost its coolant goes from normal to damn near on fire very quickly. The damage if driven hot will be catastrophic. But maintaining the system is not really expensive when you consider that a tow truck call is usually at least two hundred dollars.

Long time to respond.

I ordered the digital (thumbdrive) Fiesta manual. After some time it arrived but the thumb drive was blank. While trying to get a replacement ebay gave me a refund.

Then I found a print edition for Fiesta Petrol cars covering my model year so I ordered one. It took almot two weeks to arrive from Canada, only to find that my 1.6L natual asperated engine was not covered in the book. I got with ebay and arranged a refund and return.

Then while digging around the internet, I found a thread on a Fiesta Forum where it was stated that the 1.6L engine, like mine, does not have a mass air sensor, one of the things that I wanted to research in the manual for proper removal and cleaning, so apparently I don't need to pursue that avenue.

I am still looking into finding out about the O2 sensors so I can check them for proper response, or replacement.

All of this is to clear the check engine light, that I have cleared twice with WD-40 and the supplied funnel to get a better seal on the fuel inlet flapper.

Since the CE light has returned I started the search for the mass air and O2 sensor servicing, that were described as the nest possible cause of the CE light, on another earlier internet. Now that the mass air sensosr is out of the picture I need to pursue the O2 sensors.

While wating on the manuals I've been working on my '67 Cougar to solve a hesitation on acceleration. I've installed a carb kit and a softer spring in the secondary vacuum actuator. Today I ordered a new vacuum diaphragm hoping that will finally solve that issue.

Regards, Rick
