Hi all, tested a fiesta sfe with the 1.0 ecoboost.
Checked out well, except for the coolant bottle bubbling for a good 10-20 minutes after the car is shut off. I may have heard a noise that sounds a bit like a pump when the car is off under hood. It could be the coolant lid burping but no evidence of that besides some small residue towards the outside of the bottle.
I drove the car pretty hard and it didn’t seem to affect it differently. It doesn’t seem to smoke

tldr

coolant bottle bubbling when the car is off,

bubbles for at least 15 minutes.

No other clear problems.
Is this the classic head crack or head gasket scenario?

Thank you!

How does the oil look? Is it milky? My guess could be the electric auxiliary water pump that you're hearing
no indeed. Just looks like normal oil at the right level. The coolant level did look high, but also looks just like coolant

I pulled engineering test mode and the coolant maxed out at 104c, cooling fan cycled on and off, this in 80ish degree weather at idle.

it was kind of a weee noise

they DID mention they replaced the hard plastic hose that goes to the bottle though, is that cause for concern? Car seems a little down on power but not horrible. Didn’t seem to smoke at all no matter how it was driven (test drive) trying to see if anything’s wrong before I go for it

ALSO is it normal for these to have a lumpy idle? Like the engine and lines were vibrating around a little at idle with the hood up

Engine temp seems normal. The lumpy idle is probably because its a 3cly. If its down on horsepower it might be a boost leak but it could also be normal turbo lag on a small engine.

thank you so much for the fast replies. He mentioned the coolant hard line leading to the bottle was replaced. They’ve had it about a year. He also had to put a turbo on it. It seems to have a bit of surging power at higher rpm. Would any of this worry you?

How many miles on the car? Surging power could be from a boost leak.
