Quite alright. When you have more time - here are some other troubleshooting hints to help you...
If the transmission side of the shifter seems OK. Lift the car onto jacks - place the transmission in Neutral - keep the Handbrake on while chocking the rear wheels - no need to remove the wheels - just take the weight off the bottom and make it so the wheels can spin freely.
When it's in Neutral - the bigger pivot arm - or club - (what some people look at it as) - you can and should, easily be able to move the arm freely into a Gear using only hand effort. This is done without anyone helping with alignment of the H-pattern but can visually watch the gearshift knob move - rock it left or right to engage the 3rd and 4th gears - someone should be able to see it visually from the drivers side window as it moves forward and back.
- If you can't - Its' possible the cables might be pinched (dislocated) binding or have debris on them - where the sheath that protects the cables - can get bound up by impacts (bending the cables) or thru excessive slack - where the gear shifter guides the make the X-Y motion back at the cabin side - is worn.
If you can - you can also pop off the shifter cable rods by prying off the bushing from the gymbal it's on, and move the shifter cable by hand to make sure it is not sticking. One cable - the one that does that club - will move the Gearshifter forward and back without too much effort - same for the smaller gymbal on the shaft (transmission side) - that bushing you should be able to pull and push and have the Gearshift lever move side to side - again, without too much effort - in the shift ranges of motion.
- If it sticks - might need to remove the Gearshift trim in the cabin, and place drops of oil onto the cables to let it drain down onto - and in thru the cables and their guides / sheath - so oil can penetrate and lubricate the cables to free them up.to restore operation.
So if the shift pattern is fine - but sticks, make sure both the lever in the gearboxs' side and their bushing-ends at the cables - can move freely.

- If you still can't seem to get it to shift right. Check your Clutch - it may be from worn bearing onto something more serious. Try this check - Drive it to help it warm up - then while it's at low idle - press in the clutch - leaving the gearshift in neutral - you should hear gear churn, then when the clutch gets pressed in, that churn should lessen and stop - meaning the gears in the box are stopped and the only thing moving is the engine and the clutch plate- the clutch is freed-up the tyranny, then place it in 1st and see if you can vary the tug. As in slowly let out the clutch to hear the RPM drop and feel the car try to pull ahead. During this time listen for noise - as in; when the pressure plate and clutch meet. What do you or can you hear? - are there noises? Feel the clutch pedal for pulsing or weak operation at specific "angles" your foot works the clutch pedal...do you feel - shudders? I' looking to know if you're getting various quirks that you might not have noticed earlier when the cars' cooler and the transmission is not hot.
- Another check is to see about how your synchronizers are working in the hot or warmed up fluid. If a transmission is operating correctly and properly filled with the right fluid - you should be able to feel gentle tugs on the wheel as you leave Neutral and head into a gear without using the clutch - not slamming it into a gear - just press it into the gear - it should make the car jump or move forward with pressure on the shifter but not using the clutch - (do not do this for Reverse - I'm looking for other symptoms that affect your FORWARD synchronized gears). If the car tends to "grab" and go into the gear but not cause a clash - but make itself move forward and actually engage the gear with some speed without too much effort on your part or the clutch - you have issues with the fluid and potential damages to the gears from varnishing and scarring the gear surfaces that apply force to speed up to the right gear using the synchronizers.
- Contaminated? After some vehicles has sit in the rain, their transmissions may get contaminated with water seepage - causing the fluid to stop being an oil and work more like a sticky fluid that makes it difficult to shift the gears due to the fluid is spinning at a rate that makes the next gear you're trying to get into nearly impossible.
- Heat can thin out the oil and if you don't have enough oil in there - you can wind up with sticky gear meshing that won't let you shift unless your completely stopped or are able to match the speed of the next gear you need to shift to via RPM. You would have to modulate the pedal to make the spin in the engine to meet the shaft speed the gears need to mesh at.That is supposed to be what the synchronizer would do - only it can't - it's stuck rolling on the gear it's supposed to let meet the rate for meshing and the clutch is supposed to back that up without clashing because the fluid isn't there or isn't helping to release the gear so it can.
Basically, were looking ODD-behavior when it's warmed up - so cold temps and it runs alright usually tells me the shifter assembly is the problem - but it can go both ways. One, the shifter assembly in the passenger compartment needs some TLC - else the only other part is the one at the Gearbox. So if you do regular engine-oil changes - take a moment or two to inspect the gearbox shifter assembly and lube it up during that oil change.
