Hey people, I have a question if anyone can help me...

Basically I've got a 2004 1.4-litre, 16-valve petrol zetec Fiesta and I was wondering if the cams out of a 1.6 16-valve Fiesta would be compatible??

This may sound bizarre, however it's actually not and the reason I say this is because many years ago I had a 1990 1.6 VW Golf which was a basic model and I took the cams from a 1.8 8-valve GTI and not only did they work but the results were unbelievable! It completely increased the power and torque dramatically and the best part was it only cost me £25 for the cam from a salvage yard.

So has anyone tried this and if so what was the results? And if no one has then Ill be the forums Guinea pig and give it a try being that I'm replacing the timing belt in a couple of weeks.

Appreciate your help and input,
Thanks Rick

Probably not. Ford has been in the habit of developing engines for the “basic” Fiesta and Focus models that are not tunable. They reserve that capability for the performance oriented models such as the ST and RS models. I’m not saying that it is impossible but the expense of doing this would outweigh any advantage to just buying a performance variant. The gearing is also fuel economy oriented. The basic Fiesta we got in the States was engineered to resist anything more than a cat back exhaust system and a low restriction intake system. We have learned to make do with the fuel economy of the basic Fiesta model or step up to the Fiesta ST model that has the potential for more power adders. The big downside to doing this is that the Fiesta ST is much more maintenance intensive than the basic Fiesta. The modified Fiesta ST is much more maintenance intensive than stock Fiesta ST! Here in the States, the modified Fiesta ST is often being parted out to recover some of the expenses of having modified it. I take that to mean that the value of a modified Fiesta ST is not rewarded at resale.
