- What I Drive
- 1979 Ford Fiesta S
Old timer here in the US with a 1979 Fiesta that I've had a while. Last Sunday, I was out behind my barn and saw my poor Fiesta. Been parked there since 2001 when my wife took a mild off road excursion putting many dents in the right side of the car. Looked quite sad, with a lot of surface corrosion on the hood (bonnet) and roof. Fortunately no holes though..The sorry condition contrasted severely with how it looked when I bought the car in 1979 so it appears I've owned the little beastie for 46 years.
I plan to resurrect the thing, and I am hoping for tips on parts sources as there don't appear to be any over here. I hope to use this forum and its members for leads on where to get the large number of bits that I need and to see what others have done to their machines.
While the car ran, I essentially made a version of the XR2 (at least what I think was an XR2) with a Cortina GT head, changed intake and carb, changed the cam to a Formula Ford version and of course got the larger front brakes which naturally made me upgrade to larger wheels - which today is ironic as most people do not believe that the US version had 12" wheels.
cheers!
