Having an issue with the anti-theft system on our 2012 Fiesta. Wouldn't start one day so I thought maybe the key was dead. Started up one time with the secondary key. Now it won't start with either key. Have replaced battery in the primary key. When attempting to start, it flashes the anti-theft lockout graphic and the engine won't start.
Have tried the following:
1) left the key in the on position for 15-20mins, turned off, tried starting. nothing.
2) disconnected the negative terminal for 15+mins, reconnected, tried starting. nothing
3) disconnected both negative and positive terminals for 15+mins, reconnected, tried starting. nothing
I borrowed an OBDII scanner (OBDeleven) from a friend but it's not connecting long enough to read the codes. Usually will connect and then the APP asks for the VIN number to verify the vehicle type. It then disconnects.
Are there some fuses that may be shot for the PATS system that I can check? Is my last resort here to have it towed to a shop or dealership? Luckily it's a secondary car that I was dumping miles on for a weekly commute but I'd like to get it mobile again.
