Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the structure inside the air filter box on my 1.25 petrol Fiesta is? It occupies the half of the box not filled with air filter. Also, would fitting a K&N induction kit, thus getting rid of the complete filter box cause a problem if this structure is missing? IMG_20200703_130756835.jpg

I cannot speak to the reasons why it was designed with that feature in the bottom. Our Fiesta's in North American markets have a waffle grid texture in the floor. I was told that this is done to capture sand and heavier particles and prevent them from being added to the continuous, pressurized swirling induction air supply.
I am unaware of what the K&N "full induction kit" you mentioned looks like. So, I don't know what that consists of.

In the older injection days, they used to use resonators to help with a plenum effect of making the engine more efficient at gathering air and allowing for reserve capacity for intake "inrush" air to flow smoothly

Perhaps a good or better definition can be applied by this man...
