I have an issue with my ‘14 fiesta. It seemed as though the drivers side caliper was sticking so I replaced it. Still stuck so I replaced pads, rotors, caliper (again), and brake line. Still doing it.

its a 5speed with hill assist so I turned that off. Still sticks. Seems to get worse as it heats up. Bled the brakes countless time. Still sticks. It’s as if the caliper is slowly releasing pressure. When parked on a hill, it will roll freely up and down the hill so long as I don’t touch the brakes. When I touch the brakes, it stops for a couple seconds and then slowly starts rolling again. It really seems to me the hill assist is messing up, but I don’t know truly know how the hill assist functions.

help... someone... cause I’m ready to light a match! 😂

Well, it's obviously something in the area of brake pressure distribution, I don't know that the ABS controller is the control point of that feature. I would probably start with purging all the old fluid by bleeding the brakes at all corners. If the root cause of the problem is the ABS distribution block, that is going to be a fairly expensive part.

yeah... I looked up the cost of that thing already. The one I found was about $900.

I'm assuming there's a fuse for the ABS? I would remove it and see if it will roll then. If the ABS isn't functioning it should brake as if the ABS doesn't exist.

That’s a really good idea. I’ll try that! Thanks!
Any way to truly test the master cylinder?

any idea how the hill assist functions? I’ve always felt it had something to do with that, but don’t know how to check it. Is that tied in with the abs block?

pulled the fuse for the ABS... problem solved... except not really. Brakes function fine now. So is there anything outside the ABS block that would affect just the drivers side pressure?

I mean my first car didn’t have ABS so it’s not the end of the world to not have it so long as there’s no long term issue with the brake system by leaving that fuse out?

If pulling the fuse works, then the probably is in the electronics, not the mechanical part. I don't know about this particular controller, but a lot of times you can replace the circuitry without replacing the valve body. This is a part you should be able to find salvage at a decent price.

Before you do that though, you should probably take it to a dealer to have them scan it for codes. The ABS related codes are usually separate from the engine/emissions related codes. Is the ABS light on?

Oh, and no long term issues. You just won't have ABS or traction control, and possibly the hill assist as well. I'm not sure how that works.

haven’t done much else with it except turn the hill assist back in. Surprisingly it works. So I guess the hill assist does not function thru the ABS.
And no. Prior to pulling the fuse, there were no ABS lights.
